ATTRACTIONS
Guinea Bissau wasn't the country to extend a warm welcome to tourists until now and hence hasn't been a favourite destination on the tourist map. Things have however improved over the years. The unadulterated countryside is the main attraction of the country.
Bijagós Archipelago: This archipelago is a group of small islands, most of them uninhabited and not frequented by foreigners. The ones easily accessible are Bolama and Bubaque. Bolama , the former capital of Guinea-Bissau has great beaches where one can camp as there are no separate accommodation facilities. Bubaque is a picturesque island easily accessible from Bissau and one can stay at the town.
Bissau: this is the capital city and its population is about 200,000. The rustic setting of colorful shops at the central market is a lovely sight. The Museum of African Artefacts gives an insight into traditional sculpture, pottery, weaving and basketware. |
